032113br0133rSPRINGFIELD – State Senator Melinda Bush today applauded the governor for signing into law a measure that allows law enforcement to take an escaped sexually violent person into custody, even if that person has fled out of state.

“No criminal should be able to escape our state because of a technicality,” Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) said.

returning-national-guard-soldierRMASCOUTAH – On Saturday, Senator Melinda Bush (D - Grayslake) applauded the governor for signing a proposal into law that eases the transitions of military students moving in and out of Illinois schools.

“These families give up so much in order to serve in our military.  The least we can do is ensure that school transfers are as easy on their children as possible,” said Bush, who sponsored the measure in the Senate.

The new law makes school transfers easier for children of active duty military personnel by ensuring that military children who move to Illinois from other states remain in the same grade. If they were in 2nd grade in another state, Illinois schools must also place them in 2nd grade.

800px-Kalama WA - road construction 01RSPRINGFIELD - State Senator Melinda Bush (D-Grayslake) is pleased to announce more than $18 million in highway, bridge and local road repair projects in the 31st district.

“Lake County is often forgotten about when it comes to transportation needs,” Bush said. “We have a huge number of highways and bridges that are in desperate need of upkeep and structural repair. One of my top priorities has been to address these issues and keep our highways and bridges safe for drivers.”

The majority of the money promised to Lake County is part of a larger $1.1 billion construction plan approved by the General Assembly last week. It does not call for any new taxes or fees to finance the construction. Instead, the state will reallocate money that is no longer needed to pay off construction bonds.
